The Ijen Crater adventure starts at approximately 00:00 AM. We will depart from your hotel and drive to Paltuding Base Camp, the main starting point for the Mount Ijen hike, located at around 1,800 metres above sea level. The journey takes approximately one hour, passing through local villages, rice fields, and forested areas filled with tall, ancient trees.
Once we arrive at Paltuding, you can enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea while our guide explains the hiking route and provides important safety instructions. At around 02:00 AM, we will begin the trek towards Ijen Crater.
The uphill trail covers approximately 3 kilometres and usually takes 1.5–2 hours, depending on your fitness level and walking pace. Along the route, there are six checkpoints, with small food stalls and toilet facilities available at most of them.
After reaching the upper section of Mount Ijen, at an elevation of approximately 2,386 metres, we will continue towards the crater rim. For those interested in witnessing the famous blue fire, the journey includes a descent of around 800 metres along a steep, rocky, and slippery path. Reaching the crater floor takes approximately 30–45 minutes.
The blue fire is a rare natural phenomenon created by ignited sulphuric gases and is one of the main highlights of the Ijen experience. If access is permitted and weather conditions are suitable, you will have the opportunity to witness this unique sight and take memorable photographs.
Important note: If you are unable or prefer not to descend to the blue fire area, you can skip this section and continue directly towards the sunrise viewpoint.
After exploring the blue fire area, we will climb back up the same trail and proceed to the sunrise point. This section takes approximately 30 minutes to one hour, depending on your pace. At the viewpoint, enjoy the spectacular scenery of Ijen Crater and capture photos of the surrounding volcanic landscape.
At around 07:00 AM, we will descend to Paltuding Base Camp before returning to your accommodation for breakfast and time to freshen up.
In the afternoon, we will check out and continue the journey to Pronojiwo, Lumajang, where your accommodation near Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is located. The drive takes approximately 6–7 hours, depending on road and traffic conditions.
Upon arrival, check in and spend the evening resting after the day's activities. Make sure to get enough sleep before the waterfall trekking excursion the following morning.
